Victor Mallet is a journalist, commentator and author with more than two decades of experience in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He is based in Hong Kong, where he works as Asia editor of the Financial Times.
Previously he was bureau chief in Madrid, and Asia editor in Hong Kong. He twice won the Society of Publishers in Asia award for opinion writing. In India, he was awarded the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism as a foreign correspondent for a 2012 feature about the rise of Narendra Modi.
His highly praised book on the south-east Asian industrial revolution and the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis, The Trouble with Tigers, was first published in 1999 and his forthcoming book, River of Life, River of Death: The Ganges and India’s Future, to be published in 2017 on OUP’s trade list, will draw on his experience of reporting on India and the sub-continent when serving most recently as the FT‘s South-East Asia bureau chief.
