He Jiahong

He Jiahong – 'the John Grisham of China' – is Professor of Law at People’s University (RUC) in Beijing, Director of Law at the Evidence Research Institute, and Director of the Research Center for Wrongful Convictions. He is also Director, Centre for Common Law at RUC, in association with the Great Britain China Centre and the University of Oxford.

A sought-after speaker, he is one of China's leading experts on criminal evidence, evidential investigation and criminal procedure, and gained his doctorate of law at Northwestern University in Chicago. He speaks English fluently and has been a visiting scholar professor and researcher at other prestigious universities and institutions around the world, including New York University and the Max-Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law.

He is a successful writer of crime thrillers, the first two of which, Hanging Devils and Black Holeshave been translated into English and published by Penguin China. He is also the author of a prestigious Penguin Special: Back from the Dead: A Landmark Ruling of Wrongful Conviction in China and Back from the Dead: Wrongful Convictions and Criminal Justice in China, published in 2016 by the University of Hawai’i press.
